  1. With student and staff safety at the forefront, schools in Horry County have stepped up security for the new school year. Every school has an armed officer, additional signage has been added to many schools to help visitors know where to enter schools and also to help first responders navigate school campuses. In addition, several schools, like Pee Dee Elementary, are using clear backpacks. (WMBF)
  2. This weekend is the 10th annual "Wheel to Surf" clinic, sponsored by the nonprofit Adaptive Surf Project. The event, which allows people with disabilities to experience the thrill of surfing, will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26 at the 13th Avenue South beach access in Surfside Beach. According to WBTV, "Brock Johnson, the event’s founder and assistant director of Adaptive Surf Project, said he expects hundreds of people to be in the water this weekend and that they will leave with big smiles on their faces."   3. You are invited to a fundraiser hosted by Nailed It, in The Market Common, on Sept. 1, from 6 to 9 p.m. to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. There will be basket raffles, food and Art Bar Projects of your choice. For more information click here. (WMBF)
