Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- A tragic accident happened in the early morning hours on Sunday, April 30. There was a pedestrian fatality that resulted from a traffic collision. According to the Myrtle Beach Police Department Facebook post, "An officer with the Horry County Police Department alerted the Myrtle Beach Police Department at approximately 7:24 a.m. that an unresponsive male was located beside Highway 17 Bypass north of 21st Avenue North. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene. The preliminary investigation indicated that a vehicle struck the male as he attempted to cross the bypass on foot at approximately 1:30 a.m. This is an ongoing investigation. If anyone has information about this collision, please contact the Myrtle Beach Police Department at 843-918-1382 and reference case number 23-004451." (Myrtle Beach Police Department via Facebook)
- Check out something a little different in Myrtle Beach. The House of Cars diecast hobby store opened in March and is located at 512 8th Ave. North. Owned by diecast car enthusiast Martin Lyon, this new store has allowed him to give life to his lifelong passion for cars. Now the Grand Strand has something else to be known for. According to Myhorrynews, Erica Lyon, Martin's wife said, “We offer diecast cars, both collectibles and toys for kids. But more centered toward the collector. Grown men and women both collect them. Some people take them and make custom cars out of them. They'll take a $1 car, strip it down, repaint it, put new tires on it, it becomes a $100 car. So, between the kids and then the adult collectors, it's kind of a hobby for all ages.” (Myhorrynews)
- Be aware of the beach rules that go into effect today in Myrtle Beach. According to wpde.com, "beach coverings, which from Memorial Day through Labor Day, only allow circular umbrellas, up to seven-and-a-half feet in diameter. From the day after Labor Day until Memorial Day, tents and canopies up to 12-by-12 square feet are allowed. Umbrellas must be in line with or behind the lifeguards' line of sight and landward of the mean high tide line. Tents and canopies, when allowed, must be 10 feet behind the established umbrella line. Infant shelters are allowed year-round, but cannot be any larger than four feet wide, three feet deep and three feet tall. For more information on umbrella accessibility and rules, click here."
