Here's what it will be doing (myrtlebeachonline.com) — A major $72 million federal beach renourishment project has begun in North Myrtle Beach and will move through Myrtle Beach and Surfside Beach over the next several months, periodically closing short sections of shoreline. Residents and visitors can expect noisy, round-the-clock dredging equipment but will still find plenty of open beach, plus online trackers to see exactly where work and access closures are happening each day.
   

2. Mayor Brenda Bethune reflects on eight years leading the City of Myrtle Beach (myhorrynews.com) — Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune is preparing to leave office after eight years, saying she’s proud of keeping her 2017 promises. She highlights long-delayed downtown revitalization work, compares her approach to Charleston’s Joe Riley, and describes how outside guidance helped shape the city’s strategy for tackling crime and blight in the core tourist area.
   

3. Man allegedly slashed victim's hand with knife at Myrtle Beach hotel (wbtw.com) — Police say a man is accused of slashing another man’s hand with a knife during an argument at a Myrtle Beach oceanfront hotel on South Ocean Boulevard. The victim reported the attacker threatened to kill him before swinging the knife, and the suspect was later arrested and remains jailed on a high bond. Residents may notice continued police presence as the case moves through court.
   

4. Festival of Lights strengthens Jewish bonds, educates Myrtle Beach on Hanukkah (wpde.com) — Myrtle Beach’s Jewish community is inviting neighbors to the ninth annual Festival of Lights at the Truman Memorial Library, using Hanukkah traditions to build understanding and unity. Local educator Rayna Shoihat says sharing stories, food, and menorah lighting is especially meaningful during a tense time, and she credits the City of Myrtle Beach and library staff for helping the celebration grow.
   

5. Lumbee Tribe members emotional as federal recognition expected (wmbfnews.com) — Myrtle Beach viewers are hearing how Lumbee Tribe members are reacting as long-sought federal recognition is finally expected to be signed into law. The change would unlock about $2 billion for healthcare, education, and other services for roughly 60,000 Lumbee members, with local tribal voices describing emotional ties to ancestors and hopes for better medical care and college support.
