Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- There will be an increased police presence at Bike Week this year, based on last year’s number of participants, arrests stats, and calls for service. According to WMBF, "Capt. Justin Wyatt said mobile command posts will be put up near event locations to allow for quicker responses to any kind of emergencies. Horry County Police will also get help from Highway Patrol for traffic control. Wyatt added more officers and detectives will be out on patrol compared to last year’s bike week." This year will mark the 84th Annual Myrtle Beach Bike Week. festivities will start May 12 and run through the 21st. Have fun and be safe! (WMBF)
- Rising drug addiction in the area has become a major concern for Myrtle Beach officials, which has caused the city to collaborate efforts to combat the problem. The city has hired a mental health alliance partner who will focus more on those follow-up efforts for people suffering from addiction and/or mental health issues and residents are encouraged to utilize the city’s resources to get educated on topics like mental health, drug addiction and housing insecurities. (WBTW)
- The dune walkover on 51st Avenue North in Myrtle Beach is now open to the public. According to wpde.com, "The public works team has moved on to the city's final dune walkover project of the season at 8702 North Ocean Blvd." (wpde.com)
- Looking to add a furry friend to your family? Why not check out the animals that are up for adoption at Kind Keeper Animal Rescue in North Myrtle Beach? The rescue actively rescues dogs and cats that are homeless, at high risk for euthanasia due to shelter over population, and often suffering from medical problems. According to WMBF, "This includes a high population of newborns, pregnant animals, as well as senior animals. They provide veterinary care, proper nutrition, training, exercise and prepare animals for adoption into the community." There are a lot of cuddly friendly animals who are looking for their forever homes. Stop by and see if you can help out any of them. (WMBF)
