- Orion180 Insurance and the Field Insurance Agency of Surfside presented Backpack Buddies with a $5,000 check. A program of nonprofit Help 4 Kids, Backpack Buddies aims to keep children fed in Horry County. The program helps feed more than 2,600 children each week.(WMBF)
- Horry County applied for about $2.95 million through four federal grants from FEMA. The grants, denied on July 1st, were meant to mitigate flood risk in the Forestbrook and Socastee communities. The county plans on making an appeal to FEMA. (Charleston Post Courier)
- Horry County Schools need to fill almost 100 school bus driver positions. To incentivize applicants, and encourage current drivers to stay, the district is offering a $1,500 bonus per semester for new and current drivers. No previous experience is needed, but drivers must be 21 years or older.(WMBF)
- The Myrtle Beach Police Department are investigating a shooting that occured Friday morning on Park Drive. Police say the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment, and one person was detained in connection to the case — but no names have been released. As of yet, there is no further information on the case. (WMBF)
- Councilman Harold Worley of Horry County faces difficulties in his effort to change how county council members are elected. Worley is proposing that Horry County still remain divided into 11 districts, each represented by a council member living in those communties. But rather than being elected by just that community, the voices of more than 262,000 voters across Horry County can weigh in. He hopes the changes will be a solution to a controversial rezoning proposal. (Myhorrynews)
- A Horry County author just released a children's book that aims to help kids cope with anxiety, learn self-acceptance, and how to be confident. Nikki Merrill's "Nim the Spiderninja" follows the story of an eight-year-old who overcomes her worry about getting eyeglass with the help of a spidery friend.
