  1. It's been a hot summer and the heat will be sticking around for the weekend with much of the same high temperatures and humidity forecast. Reportedly temperatures will remain to feel like triple-digits and there is a good chance of a scattered storm midafternoon today. Stay cool! (WBTW)
  2. As part of the Community Eligibility Provision program, Horry County Schools will be offering free meals to all students for the 2023-24 school year. In qualifying school districts, this will include both breakfast and lunch on a daily basis. (WBTW)
  3. With an increase of 30 to 40 percent in call volume during the summer, Surfside Beach fire captain said more personnel are needed. So, more firefighters are on their way! According to WMBF, Fire Chief Rob Clemons said, “Now, we’re running with two firefighters on our primary unit. Having a third firefighter is going to allow us to do tasks better as far as efficiency.” In temperatures like this, staffing is even more critical. Surfside Beach Fire Captain Chauncey Kelley said firefighters need 30 to 45 minutes of rest for every 30 minutes of work that they do. “We have a good volunteer base so that helps supplement.”' (WMBF)
  4. In an effort to protect the people and infrastructure behind the sand dunes in the area a sand renourishment project is slated to begin soon. It will encompass North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, Garden City and Pawleys Island. According to WBTW, "Myrtle Beach has recently put-up sand fencing around 10 miles of beach to help build up sand dunes until the project begins." (WBTW)

Is your home ready for the summer? Val Lyons of CBRE has some great tips to help beat the heat: Reverse ceiling fans to run counterclockwise, schedule your HVAC cleaning, replace damaged screens, check attics for rodents/nests, power wash your deck/home, clean gutters and check irrigation systems/sprinkler heads, and remove dead tree limbs/weeds and plant new flowers. Don't forget to prep your grill for BBQ season! Questions about your home's value? Contact Val today or call 774-259-8937.
