🌱 Gas Prices Are Going Up + Getting Rid Of Cigarette Litter

- In an effort to keep the area cleaner, a new Cigarette Litter Prevention Program in Surfside Beach has been implemented, which includes the installation of 50 new litter stands to collect and recycle cigarette butts throughout the town. According to WMBF, "The program is part of a $500,000 grant awarded by Keep America Beautiful to over 50 organizations throughout the country." (WMBF)
- Gas prices in Myrtle Beach are reportedly moving in the wrong direction: up! According to WMBF, "In a survey of almost 200 Myrtle Beach gas stations, gas prices have reportedly risen 18.9 cents per gallon in the past week." (WMBF)
- Two harm reduction specialists are being hired by the Horry County Fire Rescue in an effort to help curb the opioid epidemic in the community. According to WMBF, "The two new specialists will follow up with patients who have suffered an overdose and were administered Narcan, and the specialists will work closely with different recovery organizations in the community to try and get patients the help they need." - Looking for a furry friend? You are in luck! There are two ways to adopt from The Grand Strand Humane Society shelter, including visiting their Facebook page or GSHS YouTube Channel. Or you can go to the free walk-in events at either their cat location near Highway 501 Tanger Outlets across from Carolina Pottery and beside the Uniform Outlet or the dog location at 3241 Mr. Joe White Ave., Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Reportedly, because of capacity limits, the goal is for 200 adoptions over the next two weeks.
