  1. Memorial Day weekend officially kicks off the summer boating season in the area and boaters are being reminded to be safe and follow boating rules when out on the water so that everyone can have a safe and fun experience. To ensure that safety is first, this weekend and throughout the summer season, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources will be out in full force. (wpde.com)
  2. Don't miss the Surfside Beach Memorial Day Golf Cart Parade, which will be held on Monday, May 29 at 10 a.m., starting from the Holiday Inn Oceanfront Surfside Beach. Carts will be adorned in all kinds of patriotic colors and decorations and prizes will be awarded. Following the parade, at 2 p.m. at Memorial Park, there will be a ceremony honoring our country's fallen heroes. (Surfsidebeach.org)
  3. In an effort to gather input about transformation needs in the area, the Grand Strand Area Transportation Study held a public input meeting in Surfside Beach recently to gain input from the community. The takeaway was that there is a greater need for increased bus routes to go inland and to extend bus service to more places. (WMBF)
  4. Featuring art, nature, and wildlife Brookgreen Gardens is one of the South Strand's biggest attractions and now it is adding a brand-new red wolf habitat to its Lowcountry Zoo. The exhibit will reportedly include breeding space to assist the species’ survival plan in hopes of aiding the expansion of the population in North America. Currently, red wolf are endangered species. The wolves are expected to arrive in approximately two weeks. (WMBF)
