Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. Applications for Habitat for Humanity home buyer program in Horry County are now open. There are several things that applicants will be asked to do if they want to be considered for the program. They will need to pay closing costs, take monthly financial classes, pay down their current debt, perform sweat equity hours and agree to not take additional debt. According to wpde.com, "Applications can be submitted until 12 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29." (wpde.com)
  2. Summer tourist numbers in Myrtle Beach reportedly exceeded 2019′s numbers, however, they were not as high as last year. According to WMBF, "The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce said the big storm did not stop the large amount of visitors coming for Labor Day [and] people spent more money on rooms, which is a great sign as they look back over the summer months." (WMBF)
  3. It's after Labor Day weekend, so the rules for the Grand Strand are changing. Here are some things you need to know according to wpde.com, "Dogs are allowed on the beach and boardwalk at any time as long as they're on a leash of 7 feet or shorter. Bicycles are also allowed on the beach and boardwalk at any time. Tents and canopies up to 12-by-12 square feet are allowed but must be 10 feet behind the umbrella line. Kayaks and surfboards no longer have to stay in certain areas during certain times [and] the splash pad at Futrell Park will be turned off until Memorial Day." (wpde.com)
