  1. It's hurricane season, and in an effort to keep everyone safe, it has been decided that school will be held remotely in Horry County on Thursday, Aug. 31. According to an announcement from Horry County Schools, "All Horry County Schools (HCS) facilities will be closed for all students due to the forecast for inclement weather related to Hurricane/Tropical Storm Idalia. However, HCS will operate on Thursday with an eLearning day for all students. School staff members will provide directions for students regarding Thursday’s eLearning day." (Horry County Schools)
  2. Hurricane Ian decimated many of Myrtle Beach's sand dunes just a short time ago. Over the past several months the city of Myrtle Beach has been working tirelessly to rebuild the sand dunes, replace the fencing and replant sprigs of seagrass that were lost to the storm. However, with Hurricane Idalia looming, the city is concerned about the well-being of the area. According to WBTW, "Myrtle Beach spokesperson Mark Kruea said the dunes aren’t very big yet and is hopeful the hurricane won’t hit the Grand Strand that strong. 'We went ahead and put the sand fencing back up, planted the seagrass to help trap wind-blown sands so that the dunes would grow naturally over time,' Kruea said. 'Hopefully the storm won’t affect that much but we’ll have to wait and see.'" (WBTW)
  3. Reportedly, a vulnerable adult who resided at a community training home in Little River fell out of bed and suffered what are being called, 'significant injuries' when the person who was supposed to be caring for them, 58-year-old Lauren Grace Sirgnano, of Aynor, fell asleep during her shift. According to wpde.com, "Investigators alleged that Sirignano failed to provide supervision to maintain the health and safety of the victim by lying on a couch and appearing to sleep during most of her nighttime working shift, the SCAG's Office said." Sirgnano has been charged with one count of neglect of a vulnerable adult. (wpde.com)
  4. There will be no golf on the Strand Thursday. Hurricane Idalia and the prediction of her power have forced the 40th PlayGolfMyrtle Beach.com World Amateur Handicap Championship to cancel Thursday's fourth round. According to Myhorrynews, "The event will be cut from 72 to 54 holes for most players, with Wednesday morning's third round now being the final round prior to Friday's championship, which is still scheduled to be played."
