Here are the top three stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- After a standoff lasting nearly five hours, a man was arrested in Myrtle Beach. The arrest was carried out by the U.S. Marshals and Myrtle Beach Police, who were serving a warrant for the man's charges of kidnapping and assault and battery by mob third-degree. The charges stem from an incident on June 6, where he and other suspects allegedly assaulted a female victim, as evidenced by a video obtained by authorities. (wpde.com)
- From Friday through Sunday, drivers in Myrtle Beach can anticipate lane closures and detours on Mr. Joe White Avenue, as announced by the City of Myrtle Beach on social media. The closures, spanning from U.S. 17 to Frontage Road, will enable Myrtle Beach Public Works crews to replace sewer line valves. Eastbound traffic from U.S. 17 will be redirected to 21st Avenue North until Sunday morning, with the closure switching to westbound traffic afterward. Both daytime and nighttime work can be expected in the area during this period. (Myrtle Beach Sun News)
- The Horry County Animal Care Center has initiated a program that will provide free pet adoptions with over 60 animals available, and an adoption event this Saturday at a local PetSmart location will take place. Operating six days a week, the center has reached full capacity due to intakes from legal cases by Horry County police. While they cannot accept owner surrenders or strays due to limited space, they aim to find families for the current shelter animals through free adoptions, potentially creating room for more animals to be taken in.
