  1. At 11:35 a.m. on Monday morning, a single-engine Piper PA-18 banner plane reportedly went down in the ocean near the beach around the area of 40th Avenue North, in Myrtle Beach. Only the pilot was in the plane, and he was reportedly taken to the local hospital. According to WBTW, "The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate, according to the FAA. NTSB will lead the investigation. Authorities have already removed the plane from the water." (WBTW)
  2. Beginning Aug. 8, free of charge, children five and older with special needs or disabilities have the opportunity to be cheerleaders if they want to try out the sport. According to My Horry News, "The cheer and dance training is being offered by the Grand Strand Miracle Leagues, whose stated mission is to 'offer individuals with special needs the opportunity to participate in sports and recreational activities in a community-supported, safe, adapted and encouraging environment.' Practices will be on an ADA-approved soft rubberized field—accessible to wheelchairs and walkers, at 690 33rd Ave. North in Myrtle Beach." (Myhorrynews)
  3. Good news for local theatres. The summer blockbusters are getting seats filled and helping movie theatres bounce back after the pandemic has left many limping along for the past few years. According to WNTW, "‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ have been a huge boost for venues like the Grand 14 Theater in The Market Common, where officials said last week’s advanced ticket sales outpaced anything during the past year." (WBTW)
  4. Horry County resident Gabriel Ponce has been arrested and faces four charges and two citations under the animal care and treatment ordinance for the condition of animals in his care. He was reportedly released from jail Sunday night after posting a $4,000 bond. Officers were called to Ponce's residence last week for reports of horses in the road, when they arrived a number of emaciated animals, some with open wounds, were found in poor condition. According to WMBF, "Warrants state that the horses were 'underweight with hip bones, ribs and backbone prominent and protruding.' The investigation led to officers seizing four horses, one dog and seven chickens. Police said one horse was in such bad shape that it had to be put down." (WMBF)
  5. Gas prices went up again this week. Rising a reported 14.4 cents over last week's prices, making gas 35 cents higher than it was a month ago. Will prices come down as summer comes to end? (WMBF)
