Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. A BB gun was reportedly found in the backpack of a Myrtle Beach middle school student's backpack on Wednesday. According to WMBF, Lisa Bourcier, a spokesperson for Horry County Schools, said the incident was "swiftly handled by school administration and the school resource officer and the BB gun was immediately secured." She added that the student has been "charged by police and will face additional discipline from the school." (WMBF)
  2. Visiting the beach may be a little more difficult for seniors and those with disabilities because the city of Myrtle Beach will no longer be offering free beach-accessible wheelchairs. Lending beach accessible wheelchairs has been on hold in the area since COVID-19 hit, however, now the decision has been made to never go back to the program. According to wpde.com, "Myrtle Beach City spokesman Mark Kruea said it's a great service, but it's one the city no longer has the ability to provide." (wpde.com)
  3. This week is National Hurricane Preparedness Week. Are you hurricane ready? Hurricane season begins June 1 in Myrtle Beach, be sure to prep your home, review insurance policies, have a well-stocked emergency kit with a first aid kit, know your zone and evacuation routes and most importantly stay informed. (City of Myrtle Beach)
  4. Looking to listen to some music this weekend? James Hood, Caribbean Cowboy will be at the Blitzburgh Sports Bar & Grill starting at noon. Sing along with songs from Jimmy Buffett, Bob Marley, Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown and more. Hope to see you there! (Myrtle Beach Live)
