📰 News we're reading

1. ‘Altercation' led to shooting near Myrtle Beach hotel, warrants say (wmbfnews.com) — Myrtle Beach police say an altercation led to a shooting at the South Bay Inn & Suites on South Ocean Boulevard, where shots were fired into a hotel room with two children inside. Three Myrtle Beach residents face attempted murder and related charges, with one suspect denied bond and two others released on high bonds with GPS monitoring and no-contact orders.

2. Two high-ranking Myrtle Beach officials are getting raises. Why are they being approved now? (postandcourier.com) — Two of Myrtle Beach’s highest-paid city officials, the city manager and city attorney, will receive 5% raises starting in January, months after other employees got theirs. City leaders say the money was already in the budget, but couldn’t clearly explain why council waited until Dec. 9 to approve the increases, which were discussed in a closed-door session questioned by an open-government expert.

3. Myrtle Beach bakery known for its gourmet cinnamon rolls to close. What we know (myrtlebeachonline.com) — A popular vegan bakery, Cinnaholic Myrtle Beach on South Commons Drive, will permanently close on Dec. 31 due to low daily sales. The shop, known for its customizable plant-based cinnamon rolls and desserts, opened in fall 2023 and earned strong online reviews, so locals still have a few weeks left to grab their favorite treats before the doors shut for good.

4. Myrtle Beach Dying Bird Epidemic noticed by locals MyrtleBeachSC News (myrtlebeachsc.com) — Residents near 23rd–24th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach are reporting numerous dead seabirds along the oceanfront and questioning whether construction, runoff, or other factors are to blame. City officials point instead to likely bird flu among migratory species and say environmental services and state biologists are actively investigating the situation.

5. Woman breaks into storage unit and steals books, bar sign: Report (wpde.com) — Myrtle Beach Police responded to a reported burglary at Extra Space Storage on North Kings Highway, where a woman allegedly stole books, collectibles, and a bar sign from a unit. A 33-year-old suspect is now jailed at J. Reuben Long Detention Center on two second-degree burglary charges with a $30,000 bond.
