- It's Memorial Day weekend and things sometimes get a little crazy this weekend in Myrtle Beach so here are some things to know and think about ahead of the holiday weekend. According to wpde.com, "Memorial Day Weekend usually coincides with the annual Atlantic Beach Memorial Day Black Pearl Cultural Heritage and Bike Festival. The festival brings an influx of motorcycles. Keeping this in mind, officials ask you to use caution and extend courtesy to fellow drivers and bikers. The City of Myrtle Beach enforces a juvenile curfew. Juveniles, ages 17 and under, are required to be off the streets, with few exceptions, between 12 and 6 a.m. In Myrtle Beach city limits, golf carts and other low-speed vehicles are prohibited on Ocean Boulevard from 29th Avenue North to the south end of city limits, beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Friday and ending Monday when traffic control devices have been removed. Myrtle Beach’s 'umbrellas only' rule goes into effect on Memorial Day. Tents and canopies are not allowed on the beach again until the day after Labor Day. E-Bikes are not permitted on the beach and it is unlawful for any person to drive any motor vehicle on a public beach within the city. [And] since excessive noise is a key complaint during major holiday weekends along the Grand Strand, North Myrtle Beach's quiet hours are 11 p.m. through 7 a.m." (wpde.com)
- The Carolina Country Music Fest is just around the corner set for June 7, starting at 7 p.m. at Rip-Tydz . The weekend event full of fun and live music is being sponsored by Coors Light. For a list of artists and the weekend's schedule, click here. (wpde.com)
- You may have noticed some new additions to the Market Common area recently along Coventry Boulevard. The city has installed new safety signs and flashing lights to remind motorists to share the road with bicyclists and pedestrians. Please be careful and drive safely!
(WMBF) - Stepping in to make a positive change Luke Sharpe, director of Adaptive Surf Project, the North Myrtle Beach-based nonprofit is collaborating with the city to bring back free wheelchair access to the beach for those with disabilities. Adaptive Surf Project often uses beach wheelchairs to take those with disabilities surfing and now the nonprofit is working with the city to buy five brand-new beach wheelchairs. Reportedly the plan is for the nonprofit to provide beach wheelchairs and the city would pay for five lock boxes to store them. According to WMBF, "Adaptive Surf Project just donated a beach wheelchair to the 2nd Avenue Pier a week ago. Each chair comes with a price tag of around $1,200 and they are now looking for donations to help cover the cost of the rest." (WMBF)
