  1. The name of the Surfside Beach downtown area has officially been changed from the "Entertainment District" or "E-District" to "Pier Village." The town council voted on the change at its Tuesday night meeting and businesses and restaurants in the area are reportedly on board with the change. (WMBF)
  2. In an effort to breathe new life into the downtown area of Myrtle Beach, the Myrtle Beach Downtown Alliance (MBDA) will start work on the Broadway Streetscape Project this October. With a price tag of $120,000, the makeover project is expected to take anywhere from six to nine months to complete. (wpde.com)
  3. There is discussion orbiting around building an equestrian and event center just west of Conway. According to the Charleston Post Courier, "The proposed rural civic center could draw nearly half a million people each year and generate an economic impact of more than $29 million, according to a study released Aug. 7. But building such a venue could cost nearly $100 million, according to the study’s projections, and comparable facilities often fail to make a profit." (Charleston Post Courier)
  4. Are you looking for a way to give back to the community and volunteer? The Horry County Literacy Council is currently looking for volunteers to join the organization for the upcoming school year. Services provided are free and confidential, they are tailored towards each individual student's needs, and they are offered to students of all ages. For more information click here. (WMBF)
