  1. The former Boys and Girls Clubs of Myrtle Beach executive director, Dione Eban Buonto, was indicted by a Grand Jury in Horry County. Buonto is accused of embezzling $100,000 dollars from the organization between December 2014 through January 2020, when she stepped down. She was indicted on six charges breach of trust with fraudulent intent. If convicted, she faces up to 45 years in prison. (WMBF)
  2. Check your tickets Grand Strand! A $3 million lottery ticket was sold at Murphy USA on Kings Road. The ticket numbers matched all five white balls, and the purchased the Megaplier — sending the total skyrocketing to $3 million. The winning numbers at 2-35-36-54-64 and the Megaball number is 11. This is the second multimillion-dollar ticket sold in Myrtle Beach this summer. (WMBF)
  3. On Tuesday night, the Surfside Beach town council voted for the first reading of a hole ordinance to protect sea turtles. If passed, the ordinance would limit holes on the beach to two feet, protecting the 200+ pound turtles from getting trapped on beaches when they come on land to nest. (wpde.com)
  4. Dustin Walters once faced 53 years in prison. Now the Horry County man works at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center as a peer mentor supervisor, helping to provide hope and change in the lives of inmates — especially those affected by the disease of addiction. Walters notes that Grand Strand needs an in-patient treatment center. (wpde.com)
  5. The Myrtle Beach Police Department obtained AR-15s, sniper scopes and a military tactical vehicle through a program that provides surplus military equipment to law enforcement. Advocates of the program says it helps police meet challenges on the ground, where critics say it unnecessarily militarized local police forces. But officers also receive surplus items like shirts, sunglasses, boots, and etc. The MBPD does not pay for the equipment, but is required to cover transportation and maintenance. (Myhorrynews)
