Dorchester Co. Unemployment Increases in June
While unemployment rises from May to June 2013, it's still lower than June 2012.

More people have entered the workforce in Dorchester County and that has tipped the scales for unemployment numbers — forcing an increase in unemployment from May to June.Â
June's unemployment numbers went up to 7.3 percent, a full percent increase from May's 6.3 percent. June 2013 was 8.3 percent. The numbers are not seasonably adjusted and are recorded by the state's Department of Employment and Workforce.Â

Over the last year in Dorchester County, 433 jobs have been added. And while the number of those in the workforce remained roughly the same from June 2012 until June 2013, nearly 1,000 fewer people were in the workforce in May.Â

In June, the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased slightly to 8.1 percent, up from 8.0 percent in May. Nationally, the unemployment rate remained at 7.6 percent.
