Law Enforcement Officers Vie for the Title of 'Top Cop'
Dorchester County deputy Scott Eadie earns title in event benefitting fellow deputy's family.

The inaugural Top Cop competition attracted some of the state's finest law enforcement officers and raised about $1,500 for a local deputy's family.Â
Friday's rain couldn't slow down officers as they vied for the title in a competition that included a written test, an obstacle course, a marksman test and driving course. Dorchester County Deputy Scott Eadie earned the title of Top Cop Friday.Â
Dorchester County Sheriff's Office hosted the event.Â
The Hayes family was selected as this year's beneficiary due to the medical problems suffered by Deputy Stevie Hayes' wife Charlotte. Charlotte Hayes became an amputee after a blood clot forced the removal of her left arm below the elbow in April.Â
"Out of all the things I love about this community — Dorchester County — they take care of their own," Charlotte Hayes told Patch. "We have not spent a day feeling sorry for ourselves ... Our faith in God is bigger than any problem."Â
Hayes is the mother of two boys, 7 and 8.Â
