Mayor's Raise: First of Two Readings Passes
Mayor Bill Collins could receive $45,000 beginning January 2014.

The first of two readings to increase Mayor Bill Collins' salary by 30 percent to reflect his administrative duties has passed Summerville Town Council, the Post and Courier reported.Â
Final vote will be at the July meeting of Town Council.Â
Summerville Mayor Bill Collins has been acting town administrator for nearly two years, and now he might begin to draw a salary to reflect his extra duties.Â

Collins' pay will increase . If the town hired a full-time administrator, it would be an additional $165,000 with salary and benefits.Â
An increase to a public employee's salary cannot be enacted until after an election cycle after they've entered office. Collins could not receive a change in salary until November 2013. If the ordinance passes, he will start earning the additional income January 2014.Â
