Moped Driver Struck, Killed on Highway 61

A moped operator has been struck and killed on Highway 61, according to Charleston County Sheriff's Office.

The wreck between the moped and a SUV happened at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday south of Middleton Place. 

According to a release from the Sheriff's Office, the SUV struck the moped in the rear then left the roadway striking a tree. The operator of the moped sustained fatal injuries at the scene and the SUV driver sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by Charleston County EMS to MUSC. 

The accident remains under investigation by the Charleston County Traffic Division and the Charleston County Coroner’s Office.
