Inland Skate Shop owner Bill Ridenour knew just what to say to the many skaters that showed up for the town's grand opening of the new skate park: "Let's skate!"
Town officials joined Ridenour in welcoming the skaters to their new park. They praised the group's fundraising efforts and participation in government.
"Can you believe the day is finally here?" Mayor Bill Collins asked the crowd. "Take ownership of it ... We got to prove the naysayers wrong."
The skate park encountered some controversy as nearby residents resisted the location near McKissick stadium -- claiming that the skate boarders would litter or commit other illegal acts.
