Charleston County Sheriff's Office has arrested and charged a Summerville man with felony DUI following Tuesday's fatal wreck on Highway 61.
Charleston County Coroner's Office identified the man killed as Dwight Ives, 69, of Summerville.
Sidney Eugene Son, 43, of Summerville was charged in the incident. According to the report, Son was driving "at a high rate of speed" and passing several vehicles northbound on Highway 61, south of Middleton Place. When Son returned to the right lane, his vehicle struck Ives, who was also driving northbound.
Son's vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a tree. Ives and his vehicle were thrown to the left. Son was transported to MUSC for his injuries.
