Summerville Students Display Artwork at The Ponds

Artwork on display Saturday and Sunday at Ponds Conservancy Art Exhibit and Awards.

One hundred students in first through eighth grade have submitted artwork as part of The Ponds Conservancy’s 1st Annual Youth Art Exhibit. A wide range of pieces was submitted, ranging from watercolors and drawings to oil, pastels, melted crayon, acrylic on sandpaper and permanent marker on aluminum foil. All of the art will be on display Saturday and Sunday atThe Ponds’ historic farmhouse, located at 326 Hundred Oaks Parkway.

As part of the Exhibit, the Conservancy will have three juried artists on hand Saturday, May 18, to judge the artwork. Viewers can also vote for their favorite piece. The awards ceremony will be on Sunday at 3 p.m., and the farmhouse will be open to the public from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday and 1-4 p.m. pm Sunday for viewing the art.

“We are so pleased with the enthusiastic participation in our first Youth Art Exhibit,” says Therese Munroe, Conservancy Director at The Ponds. “It’s wonderful to see all the talented young artists we have here in Summerville and we’re happy to help encourage them further in their artistic pursuits.”

The cost to submit an entry was $5, all supporting The Ponds Conservancy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life at The Pondsthrough educational programs, social events, cultural endeavors and environmental stewardship.
