What Should be the Fate of Sculpture in the South?
Partially tax-supported nonprofit in trouble.

Waning public interest and fewer dollars has some at Sculpture in the South ready to resign and others looking for a way to reignite the nonprofit's relevance in Summerville.Â
Sculpture in the South was founded in 1998, and annually hosts world-class sculptors in historic Azalea Park for a weekend of sculpture displays, demonstrations, refreshments and student sculpture displays. The group is a nonprofit that usually receives some public funds.
But as the nonprofit has aged, interest appears to have waned. The nonprofit's incoming director told Summerville Town Council he wasn't sure if there would be a show in 2014, the Post and Courier reported.
Other board members are looking to throw in the towel.
“Just a lot of us believe Sculpture in the South has run its course, and we have enough sculpture in Azalea Park," board member Ed Carter told the Post and Courier.
