Will You Vote to Raise Sales Tax by 1 Percent?

A tax to relieve property tax?

That's what a proposed local-option, 1-cent sales tax will do under state law. Dorchester County Council unanimously authorized bringing the referendum to voters during the November general election, according to the Post and Courier.

The publication reported:

Sales tax within the town limits of Summerville is 10 percent. Dorchester County already has a 1-cent sales tax that pays for road improvements, and Summerville has a 2-percent hospitality tax. Unincorporated Dorchester County has a 7-percent sales tax.
