Instagram Announces New Features for College Students

The back-to-college season is in full-swing with students hitting university campuses.

Instagram is helping college students connect with people on campus. Instagram is launching a new Instagram Schools experience in the U.S., a new dedicated, more private space designed just for college students.

The new feature, called Instagram Schools, allows students to connect with their classmates, strengthen existing relationships with friends and classmates, and keep up to date with what’s happening around campus.

With Instagram Schools, college students can:

• Search for classmates in a School Directory and filter by graduation year
• Add a school badge to their profile (visible only to classmates or mutual followers)

To keep the community safe and authentic, Instagram is partnering with UNiDAYS, a student verification platform, to confirm student status before access.

Instagram Schools is making it easier for college students to form real connections on campus. The new feature is helping students meet new friends before move-in day, find someone in their same major, and reconnect with the person they met during orientation.
