Here are the top three stories today in Chattanooga:

  1. Hamilton County Sheriff's Office deputies were forced to take precautions earlier this week after a "cloud of green powder" was identified as fentanyl by one of three suspects taken into custody after a chase through Red Bank. When removing the suspects from the vehicle, the cloud erupted, leaving green powder all over the trio's clothes. Deputies were unable to conduct a proper search on site due to the contamination but found a clump of suspected fentanyl, a container that had approximately 1.5 grams of suspected Fentanyl inside, and pills suspected of being pressed fentanyl. (WTVC)
  2. The Chattanooga City Council will soon address whether or not to apply for passenger train service on a proposed Amtrak route that would run between Nashville and Atlanta. The plan would support the city's new Climate Action Plan and would help to ease congestion on Interstates 24 and 75, said Joda Thongnopnua, the chief of staff to Mayor Tim Kelly. The hope is for a public comment period during the regularly scheduled council meeting on Mar. 21 and for the council to vote on the adoption of the climate plan on Mar. 28. (The Chattanoogan)
  3. A Chattanooga mainstay for more than 75 years will be closing its doors for good in the coming weeks. Koch’s Bakery will close its store at 1900 Broad Street on Saturday, Mar. 18 after struggling to find help in recent years. Owner Barbara Davis said she's ready for a break after always reporting to work each morning at 2 a.m. though admits she’ll miss her customers. (Local 3 News)
