Georgia Introduces Caregivers Act

The Alzheimer's Association estimates there are over 334,000 caregivers in Georgia providing care for a loved one with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia.
More than half report they have no experience or training in providing medical or nursing tasks.
The hospitalization of family patients creates real challenges after discharge often leading to readmission which are costly and add stress to the family and caregiver. Currently, there is no requirement in Georgia for hospitals and acute care to provide aftercare instructions to family caregivers at discharge of the patient.
The Georgia Caregiver Act (HB 1304) would require the Hospital and acute care facilities to provide instructions to the designated family caregiver in the aftercare of the patients.
