Here are the top three stories today in Chattanooga:
- A woman in Chattanooga needs to find a new place to stay after a fire damaged her home on East 5th Street on Monday morning. Fortunately, no one was home at the time of the fire, and firefighters were able to quickly put it out using a coordinated attack from the front and back of the home. The fire caused moderate damage to the building, and the cause of the fire is still unknown. (WTVC)
- The Chattanooga Times Free Press lawsuit against the city alleging a secretive redistricting process has been allowed to continue by a judge who denied the city's request to dismiss the case. The lawsuit asks the court to rule that the process was too secretive, and the city's lawyers argued that public meetings after private discussions made up for any violations. The case involves alleged violations of Tennessee's open meetings law, which requires public policy and decision-making by government bodies to be conducted in public meetings. - The Creative Discovery Museum has unveiled its latest renovated exhibit, Little FarmHouse, which is part of the Ignite Discovery capital campaign. The immersive gallery aims to teach children aged 5 and under about life on the farm by letting them play and explore. The exhibit features a farmhouse kitchen, a nursery, a garage, and a barn with a climber, where children can practice bedtime routines, pretend to milk a cow, collect eggs, and care for animals while learning motor, cognitive, social-emotional, and language skills. - Gas prices in Chattanooga have dropped by 13 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.89 per gallon, with most states experiencing declines. GasBuddy's petroleum analysis head, Patrick De Haan, suggests that although prices may increase in the weeks ahead, hotter-than-expected inflationary data may partially offset the rise. (Chattanooga Pulse)
- Due to the upcoming Chattanooga Women's Suffrage March and the Erlanger Chattanooga Marathon, several road closures around Chattanooga will take place. The closure of several roads will take place from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Mar. 3, on Mar. 4, at 9 a.m., with high traffic impact areas on Market and Main Street, E.
