Tennessee Unemployment Hits Record Low Again
July's 3.4 percent unemployment rate sets a record for the lowest in Tennessee in recorded history.

NASHVILLE, TN — Tennessee's unemployment rate for July was 3.4 percent, the lowest in recorded history and breaking the previous record set with June's rate of 3.6 percent.
Until June, Tennessee's jobless rate had not been below 4 percent since February 2001.

The national unemployment rate fell 0.1 percent in July.
“A continuing decline in the state unemployment rate is great news for all Tennesseans,” said labor commissioner Burns Phillips. “Governor Haslam made job creation a top priority in the state and the hard work of numerous state departments is moving Tennessee toward that goal.”

Over the past year, Tennessee's unemployment rate fell from 4.8 percent to the current 3.4 percent. Non-farm employment has increased by 49,100 jobs in the last year.
