Here are the top three stories in Dallas today:

  1. On Thursday, Jun. 1, city workers and law enforcement cleared one of the oldest homeless camps in Dallas, known as the Coombs camp, near Interstate 45 in South Dallas. Residents of the camp and their belongings were removed to make way for construction on I-45 that begins Jun. 3. The city faced backlash afterward and Jonathan Guadian, who volunteers for Say It With Your Chest, said, "We recognize that these sweeps, or 'debris cleanups' as the city camouflages the language, is a violent event that displaces many people and allows them to lose many of the community that they've already built." (KERA News)
  2. Kenzie Kizer of Dallas warned other residents about poisonous hemlock after she was hospitalized from touching the invasive plant in late May. Kizer said she pulled the plants from her alley and then immediately started to feel symptoms including tongue swelling, skin burning, speech slurring, and dizziness. According to the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, even a small amount of hemlock can be fatal to man and livestock. (My San Antonio)
  3. Six winning teams of students from the Dallas ISD have created a pop-up experience called PRISMATIC. Meg Bittner, the executive director of the Dallas nonprofit SPARK!, said PRISMATIC is "a vibrant and immersive pop-up with many Instagrammable moments as you're transported to locations around the universe through colors and sights. You'll be impressed with what these students imagined, created, and built." (NBC DFW)
