Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:
- The Dallas City Council unanimously approved the Texas Department of Transportation’s recommendation to redevelop I-345. The $1 billion hybrid compromise plan proposes eliminating feeder roads and existing ramps to make room for rebuilding I-345 below grade with a six-lane trench, overpasses, and a new deck park. State engineers propose replacing the elevated roadway because an average of about 180,000 vehicles use I-345 a day, a number that will continue to grow along with the growing population. (Spectrum Local News)
- Dallas ISD students will be required to use clear or mesh backpacks for the 2023-2024 school year. According to Dallas ISD, the new backpack policy is an attempt to keep kids safe at school. Each student will be given a bag at no cost and will be allowed to bring a small, non-clear pouch inside their backpack to hold personal items including cellphones, money, or hygiene products. (FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth)
- The Dallas Pride Parade 2023 will take place on Jun. 4 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Fair Park! For those who cannot attend in person, the parade will be live-streamed on CW33. The event will feature floats, live bands, costumes, and more. (CW33 Dallas)
