DALLAS, TX —Here's the latest information on the death of four-year old Cash Gernon, whose body was found bloodied, shirtless and shoeless in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It's a crime that still doesn't have a motive attached, while there has been an arrest: 18 year-old Darriynn Brown has been detained, although charges against him remain theft and kidnapping for the moment. According to detectives, they're waiting on forensic results before making a determination on additional charges.

In a city where crime is not unheard of, the discovery of a bloodied young child in the middle of the street on a Sunday morning with ants crawling over his body is more than enough to send shock waves through the community.

Cash and his twin brother had been staying with Monica Sherrod, his father's girlfriend in the far Southwest Dallas area of Mountain Creek. The unnamed father of the boys has been gone since March, and the children's biological mother and grandmother have been searching for the children.

According to reports, the boys' mother had no idea they weren't with their father, and they now have custody of Cash's brother. The father is missing, say authorities.

The boy was first spotted around 7 a.m. by a jogger, Antwainese Square, who told police she initially thought the victim was a dog — until she recognized his arms and legs. It was close to 11 a.m. before Sherrod called the police to report Cash missing.

The boy and his brother were living eight blocks away from where his body was found. The home had surveillance video camera equipment on the property, and Sherrod identified Brown as the individual seen picking Cash up from his crib as he slept.

Police have declared child's death a homicide, as the boy appears to have died from multiple wounds inflicted by "an edged weapon."

Brown has a court-appointed lawyer who has not yet spoken publicly about the case.a
