- Police reported that a 37-year-old man, Lyrone Moore, was fatally shot in the leg near the Dallas Design District on Thursday. The incident occurred on Quebec Street where officers arrived after receiving a shooting call. Despite being treated by the authorities and taken to a local hospital, the victim died from his injuries. (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)
- Luis Humberto Rodriguez, a 30-year-old Dallas man, was sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of producing child pornography and one count of transporting child pornography in January 2021. As part of the plea agreement, Rodriguez admitted to filming himself sexually abusing a 7-year-old girl and sharing the videos on social media. (CBS Dallas)
- The nearby Mesquite Independent School District (MISD) is considering adopting a four-day school week to address the severe shortage of teachers. This could help attract more educators and retain current ones by offering a unique selling point. MISD had 108 teacher vacancies in August, and hiring many non-certified teachers has also contributed to the decision-making, according to the district website. (The Dallas Morning News)
