Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:
- Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson will run unopposed in the upcoming general election after his only opponent, Jrmar Jefferson, failed to qualify for the ballot due to an insufficient number of valid signatures. This makes Johnson the first sitting Dallas mayor since 1967 to run without an opponent. Johnson, who is seeking his second and final term as mayor, expressed his gratitude and vowed to continue making progress for the residents of Dallas. (The Dallas Morning News)
- A study conducted by WalletHub revealed the top 30 cities in the U.S. with the hardest-working people, and several Texas cities made the list – Dallas ranked No. 9. The study also found that the average American worker puts in more hours per year than workers in Japan, the UK, and Germany and that working from home can result in even longer work hours. The study suggests that hard work is highly valued by the American working class as a means to advance in their careers. (CW33 Dallas)
- A Texas Historical Commission marker is being placed on the campus of Southern Methodist University to commemorate the spot where Dr. Martin Luther King delivered his speech "The Future of Integration" in 1966. The marker will be outside McFarlin Auditorium in Dallas, where King spoke on Mar. 17, 1966. A former student who met King at Love Field Airport recalls the civil rights leader as down-to-earth and interested in learning about Dallas and the university. (FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth)
