- Hope Supply Company has opened its first direct-service diaper pantry in Dallas. As the largest diaper bank in Texas, the nonprofit will be able to support 10,000 homeless and in-need children in the region thanks to financial donations from Crystal Charity Ball. Parents will need to provide proof of need and proof of child in order to receive this support. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
- Newly appointed Rev. Victoria Robb Powers is the first female senior pastor at Royal Lane Baptist Church. She is one of 39 Baptist pastors in Texas, and also the first in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Having grown up only seeing men at the pulpit, Rev. Powers is thrilled that she "get[s] to proclaim that God welcomes all people." Women preachers are a rarity in the Baptist community; so much so that the same week Powers was appointed, the second largest church in the Southern Baptist Convention was dismissed for appointing a female pastor. - Five zip codes in southern Dallas County continue to see health disparities despite efforts. A community study identified social, economic, and educational obstacles that are contributing to chronic health issues, ranging from cancer to heart disease. Parkland Hospital Vice President, Jessica Hernandez, calls for early intervention efforts, citing that we need to help prevent these diseases in children early on and remember that healthcare is not one size fits all.
