Fatal Shooting Of Dallas Girl, 9, Stemmed From Online Dispute: PD

Police have a charged a 19-year-old with capital murder in the fatal shooting that took place on Wednesday, Aug. 14.

DALLAS, TX — A dispute on social media between two rappers in Dallas led to the fatal shooting of a 9-year-old girl when shots were fired into the wrong apartment, police said.

The 9-year-old girl, identified by police as Brandoniya Bennett, was killed in the shooting on Aug. 14. The suspect in the shooting approached an apartment to confront a person, according to police. When that person refused, the suspect went to the back of the building and opened fire into the wrong apartment, cops said.

Police said the accused shooter and the intended target are rappers who traded barbs on social media. According to police, the confrontation on social media led to the shooting.

A primary suspect in the shooting was identified as 19-year-old Tyrese Simmons. According to jail records, Simmons is charged with capital murder. He was given a $500,000 bond.
