Father Of Slain Dallas 4-Year Old Taken Into Custody in Houston

Trevor Gernon left his sons to elude police. When one of them was killed in Dallas last month, he grieved online — but he didn't surrender.

DALLAS, TX —Trevor Gernon is no longer on the run.

The man's disappearance, and the mysterious abduction and killing of one of his twin 4-year old boys, are pieces in a puzzle that seem nowhere near fitting.

But when Cash Gernon's lifeless body was discovered May 15 in the middle of a suburban South Dallas street — bloodied, shirtless, shoeless and his feet covered in ants, police intensified their search for the boy's father.

Thursday that search ended when Trevor Gernon was arrested at a traffic stop on in Harris County on North Sam Houston Parkway. Gernon had outstanding warrants for two counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, fraud, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

After failing to appear for a Harris County court date, Gernon left his twin boys at the home of a female "friend" in March. The man's surviving twin son has been reunited with his birth mother, who did not know their father had abandoned his boys.

In a bizarre video posted on YouTube by Gernon's sister, the father mourns the loss of his son, but gives no clues about his behavior or whereabouts. That same sister suggested that if Cash's mother would allow Trevor to attend his son's funeral, he would turn himself in to authorities.

The death of 4-year old Cash Gernon has made headlines across the country — not only for his video-recorded abduction and savage stabbing, compounded by the the father's disappearance and the fact that he never told their mother where they were living. That, exacerbated by a lack of motive for the killing and media speculation, have kept every new development of the case on front pages and websites worldwide.
