Fort Worth Woman Discovers an Unexpected Bonus When She Moves into a 55+ Active Adult Community
Moving to Overture River District led to a wonderful change in Dr. Jacqueline Walton's life. She met someone special there.

(Fort Worth, TX) –Ready to dedicate your time to doing the things you want to do rather than the things you must do? Want to live in a place where a sense of community is built in? Both were motivators for Dr. Jacqueline Walton, 59, of Fort Worth, Texas to put her home on the market two years ago.
“After my husband died, I got tired of the upkeep on our house, having to take care of things when they broke, shopping around for insurance and paying deductibles,” she said. “It was just a hassle.”
So, she made the decision to right size and move to a 55+ active adult community, and she’s not alone. According to the article, “Active Adult Communities Ride the Demographic Wave,” published by Seniors’ Housing Business, active adult communities are popping up all over the country.

There are now more than 2,500 of them in cities across the United States. Active adult is defined as purpose-driven multi-family housing for people ages 55 + where there is an emphasis on community and activities.
The 55+ active adult community Dr. Walton decided to move into with her mother, who became her roommate after her husband died, is Overture River District, which is located at 4925 Scott Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76114. The community began welcoming residents in Summer 2022.

“It was the first 55+ community I toured, and I was sold on it right away,” she said. “The people here are so nice, and the activities are amazing!”
Since October 2022, Dr. Walton and her mother have lived in a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment on the first floor of the building’s east wing. Dr. Walton is one of the community’s many residents who are still working.
She is a career educator who now serves as a District Case Manager for Harmony Public Schools. Her job is to make sure the district is in compliance with State of Texas rules. While Dr. Walton is at work, her mother spends most of her time in their apartment.
“My mom doesn’t get out a lot. She has had two strokes and a heart attack; but when I’m not working, I really enjoy participating in all the activities they have available for residents here,” said Dr. Walton.
Among her favorite things to do at the community, socialize with her neighbors at the weekly Happy Hours, Friday night pool games and holiday parties; and that’s not all. “I had the pleasure of starting up a women’s Bible study group. We have on average eight to ten people participating every Monday night. There are women of all nationalities and all different religious backgrounds in the group,” she said.
Dr. Walton is also happy to share that she has made a special friend at the community. “I never in a million years would have talked to him when he first moved in because we were like two ships passing in the night,” she said.
That all changed the day Clydale Robinson, 68, texted Dr. Walton and if he could bring her mother some popcorn. “I said, ‘Sure, she likes popcorn.’ He told me later on that was his way of getting in to talk to me,” said Dr. Walton, who has been dating Robinson since this past January.
“I’ve been married twice, and he has been the best gentleman I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve never had anyone so nice to me,” she said.
The couple enjoys going out to dinner, dancing, and just spending time together. “He is a wonderful person, and to think, we would never have met if it hadn’t been for us both moving into Overture River District,” said Dr. Walton.
