Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:
- On Thursday, Jul. 6, the city marked seven years since the shooting in downtown Dallas that led to the deaths of five police officers. On Friday, the Omni Dallas Hotel was illuminated with the words, "Dallas Strong," along with the date of the attack and the names and badge numbers of the slain officers. The Dallas College El Centro Campus held a wreath laying ceremony on Friday, and the Dallas Police Department held a private ceremony at the department headquarters with the officers' families. - There have been increasing incidents of heat stroke and heat-related illnesses in Dallas County in recent weeks. Officials with Dallas County Health and Human Services are reminding the public to be on the lookout for symptoms of heat sicknesses, which can include shortness of breath, nausea, excessive sweating, and cramps. In Dallas County, men between the ages of 18 and 44 have been particularly impacted. Dallas County Health and Human Services offers free window AC units to residents with income at or below 200 percent of the poverty level set by the federal government. (KERA News)
- One person has died after a car crashed into a train on Friday morning in Dallas. The incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. on Cedar Springs. Police reported that a four-door red sedan crashed into the tank car of a parked train, but there is no indication of why the driver collided with the train. As of the time of publication, the incident remains under investigation. (NBCDFW)
