Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:

  1. On Monday, May 22, a controversial plan resurfaced at Dallas City Hall that focuses on renovating the former University General Hospital building to become a home for formerly homeless people. This 12-acre site sits directly beside a public library that's connected to an elementary school, so many residents, neighbors, and community leaders have voiced their opposition to setting this initiative in motion. However, city officials claim this would not serve as a homeless shelter, but rather just a way to provide more permanent housing units for those looking to get back on their feet. (NBC-DFW)
  2. On Wednesday, May 31, Metrocare Services is inviting residents to celebrate their 14th Annual Meals for the Minds event at the Hilton Anatole. The event will feature an informative conversation with renowned actress, author, and philanthropist, Holly Robinson Peete. Click here to register. (NBC-DFW)
  3. The City of Dallas announced it will officially be re-launching its shared dockless vehicle program, which will bring back scooters and bikes. According to a memo from the city, a soft launch of the shared scooter and bike program will occur on Wednesday, May 24, but the official launch won't take place until the following week. This program makes a return after it was stopped two years ago due to safety concerns that had been brought up by local businesses and the Dallas Police Department. (Dallas Innovates)
