Here are the top three stories in Dallas today:
- Nonprofits HHM Health and Hope Cottage are partnering to expand their services in prenatal care with a new maternal health clinic in east Dallas. Both of these organizations will band together to bring a variety of offerings to the clinic, including low-cost pregnancy testing, Medicaid enrollment, parenting education, case management, access to community resources, adoption information, and more. The clinic will be located on the first floor of Hope Cottage's headquarters and is set to open early next year. (Community Impact)
- On Thursday, Jun. 29, former Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez officially announced her campaign for the top law enforcement job in the country. Valdez, 75, said that she plans to run for her fifth term as Dallas County Sheriff, which is a role she previously held from 2005 to 2017. She'll face off against the current Dallas County Sheriff Marian Brown early next year in the Democratic primary on Tuesday, Mar. 5. (Fox4News.com)
- Due to the extremely hot and dry temperatures in North Texas, city officials are asking residents in Dallas and the small city of Heath to cut back on their water usage. According to officials, last Tuesday residents in the Dallas area used more than 655 million gallons of water. If this demand continues, the usage could lead to numerous pipe breaks and leaks across the city. In addition, residents could experience boil water notices, so city officials are asking residents only to water their lawns on scheduled days. (Fox4News.com)
