Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:

  1. A Dallas police officer was hospitalized after being injured in an overnight crash involving a drunken driver. Around 12:45 a.m. Thursday morning in Deep Ellum, a drunk driver crashed into an officer's patrol car; witnesses at the scene were able to assist the officer in escaping his damaged car and other officers transported him to the hospital for treatment. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured in the crash but he was arrested after failing to pass the field sobriety test he took. The suspect has not been charged yet as they will likely depend based on the severity of the victim's injuries; he is expected to recover. (FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth)
  2. A Northwest Dallas has officially been designated Koreatown, as it holds one of the largest Korean communities in the country along with a large number of businesses owned by Korean-Americans. Koreatown is the area along Royal Lane from Harry Hines Boulevard to Luna Road and the state has approved this area designation for the next 10 years. The city already began making strides in promoting the Korean-American community by installing three new signs in the neighborhood in both English and Korean. The official state approval of Koreatown is an early step in recognizing the positive influence of the Korean community in the city. (KRLD)
  3. Earlier this week, rental electric scooters made their soft return to Dallas after a three-year hiatus, and are looking to make their official re-launch sometime this coming week. The city of Dallas is partnering with three electric scooter companies this time around — Lime, Bird, and newcomer Superpedestrian — but there will be more rules and restrictions in place, and only 1,500 rentals available for use. New rules include speed limits in zones, restricted areas, restricted times, and more scooter monitoring. The non-emergency line is back available for scooter issues by dialing 311.
