📰 News we're reading

1. DART is about to close one of its Downtown Dallas station for years. Here's when it will go away. (wfaa.com) — Starting January 5, DART’s Convention Center Station in downtown Dallas will shut down for more than three years as the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center is redeveloped, forcing riders to shift to nearby stations and rerouted buses. Dallas commuters should check new rail detours, bus route changes, and the special GoLink zone operating daily from 5 a.m. to midnight.

2. Dallas Police and Fire Chiefs Issue New Year's Eve Safety Advisory (northdallasgazette.com) — Dallas police and fire leaders are issuing a New Year’s Eve safety advisory today, sharing traffic, fire, and emergency-preparedness tips ahead of tonight’s celebrations across the city. The 10 a.m. briefing at Jack Evans Police Headquarters will outline ways residents can celebrate responsibly, reduce preventable incidents, and stay informed through official Dallas communication channels.

3. Rodeo Dallas: Ownership of $2.25M in question after lawsuit dropped (fox4news.com) — A Deep Ellum nightlife staple, Rodeo Dallas, is no longer under a court order to stay closed after a lawsuit from real estate firm Asana Partners was dropped, but a $2.25 million bond is now in dispute. The bar’s owner says the shutdown devastated his Dallas business and argues the money should compensate lost revenue, while Asana wants the funds returned. A judge will decide who gets the cash, potentially shaping the future of this high-traffic Dallas corridor.

4. After 54 years, Dallas officer prepares to retire from the force (nbcdfw.com) — A 75-year-old Senior Corporal is preparing to retire after 54 years with the Dallas Police Department, one of only two officers to serve the city for more than half a century. He’s worked everything from detective and community relations to patrol, plans to publish a book about his calls, and will stay on as a reserve officer while traveling with his wife.

5. Ones to watch: Local and state (defendernetwork.com) — Dallas readers will recognize Rev. Dr. Freddie Haynes, a Dallas-area pastor now running for Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s congressional seat, and theatre leader Tonya Holloway of Dallas’ Soul Rep Theatre, among Black Texans to watch in 2026. The piece spotlights their growing influence alongside other Houston- and Austin-based changemakers in politics, arts, education, and Black-owned media.
