Here are the top 3 stories in Dallas today:
- This past week, Dallas police cadets and officers participated in de-escalation training. The training, which was made possible by the new Law Enforcement De-Escalation Training Act, provides law enforcement agencies the chance to work with mental health advocacy groups to establish peaceful conflict resolution techniques. Ultimately, the federally funded grant program aims to improve the relationship between law enforcement and the community. (FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth)
- Dallas artist, Mark di Suvero's, new exhibit, Steel Like Paper, is now on at the Nasher Sculpture Center. Featuring 30 sculptures, drawings, and paintings, it gives further insight into his vision. di Suvero's work is well-known in the city, with his large-form works on display across public spaces, including the Dallas Museum of Art and NorthPark. (Dallas Observer)
- Dallas has a booming Albanian pizza scene thanks to Maggie and Tony Hajro. Founders of Tony’s Pizza & Pasta, the husband and wife duo bring their immigrant experiences into the kitchen and restaurant. Following the conflict and war in Kosovo, many Albanians like them fled to Italy as refugees and got jobs working in the service industry. Now, a large settlement of Albanians who went this route have settled in Dallas, giving way to this new style of pizza that's bringing their old and new communities together. (D Magazine)
