Slain Dallas 4-Year Old Cash Gernon's Father Surfaces — On Video
A week after Trevor Gernon's son was found dead in the middle of a suburban Dallas street, his father appeals to the public for forgiveness.
DALLAS, TX —No one knows where Trevor Gernon is today, but the father of the four-year old boy who was discovered last week the middle of a suburban Dallas street dead of multiple stab wounds is speaking out.
Over the weekend, Trevor Gernon posted a YouTube video through his sister's account. Gernon does not appear onscreen in his statement. Rather, an audio recording is set to photographs of his late son with Cash's twin brother, who has since been reunited with his biological mother.
At no time in the recording does Gernon refer to Monica Sherrod as a former girlfriend, as she has previously been represented.

Gernon explains in the post that he left the boys in her care “after an unsuccessful job hunt amongst other things.”

The father states he "felt it was in the boys’ best interest to not disrupt their routine." He does not say how or when he told Sherrod he was leaving, how long he'd be gone, or whether the mother should be informed of the twins' whereabouts or well-being. He also doesn't address who was paying for the children's food or care.
As Gernon saw it, “They were comfortable, they were around other kids, and from what it appeared, Monica was a trustworthy person. This choice I made with best of intentions has resulted in a most horrific outcome.”
The person charged with kidnapping Gernon's son is 18-year old Darriynn Brown, who was an acquaintance of Sherrod's family. Murder charges could be filed, once a forensic study of the crime is complete.
In yet another bizarre twist, Jose Alvarado, a neighbor of Sherrod's whose home shares a back alley with hers, discovered that his surveillance camera also caught Darriynn Brown appearing to investigate his backyard. The video was recorded some 10 weeks before Cash was killed.
“It’s really scary,” the neighbor told The Daily Beast. “I have two kids, one girl and one boy, and they play basketball in the backyard.” Brown's mother maintains Darriynn is being framed, despite video surveillance that allegedly shows her son picking Cash up from the crib where he was sleeping with his twin.
According to Sherrod, Cash's father Gernon fled Dallas after being ordered into rehab by a court. Court records confirm that Gernon has several charges outstanding in Harris County. The twins' father says he now has to "fear for my freedom, as it is the goal of some to see me go to jail rather than grieve the loss of my little boy.”
Gernon is no stranger to law enforcement. He's been arrested numerous times, and spent 68 days in jail for a 2018 assaulting on his own father over a credit card bill dispute.
