Here are the top three stories today in Dallas:

  1. The Texas Department of Transportation announced the latest phase of its plan to widen I-30 on the east side of downtown Dallas. The plan will increase the six lanes to 12 lanes for the approximately 12 miles from Ferguson Road to Bass Pro Drive, and will affect Dallas, Mesquite, and Garland. TxDOT has scheduled an in-person public meeting on Apr. 27 and public virtual meetings from Apr. 27 through May 12. (CultureMap Dallas)
  2. On Friday, Apr. 7, Dallas City Council members were told that there are 89,000 Dallas police videos that were improperly labeled since 2016, much more than previously reported. District Attorney John Creuzot said, "I think that there’s a high likelihood that much of this data will not impact the outcome of the case. I think that there will be some that will impact the outcome and we’ll have to be responsible toward that. We’re here to make sure that the right thing is done." While the Assistant Public Defender Brad Lollar said that many murder cases from his office are involved in potentially missing police evidence, and neither the defenders nor the persecutors know which ones. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
  3. Dallas, Fort Worth, and Arlington were combined and listed as number six in HireAHelper's "Cities To Avoid If You Hate Commuting." According to the article, North Texas commuters have to "fight" their way through traffic because there is not yet an "adequate regional transit system" in the area.
