West Nile virus in Dallas – Two more cases confirmed
This summer so far, there have been four confirmed West Nile virus cases in the Dallas County area, DCHHS has confirmed.

Dallas – Earlier this week, Dallas Metro News reported the second West Nile human case in Dallas, but yesterday, the Dallas County Health and Human Services announced (DCHHS) that two additional cases were confirmed in Dallas County bringing the total to four human cases in DFW so far this summer.
Two individuals, both male, residing in the Dallas city zip codes of 75228 and 75204, have been identified as patients by DCHHS. The duo have been diagnosed with West Nile Neuroinvasive Disease.
The initial human incidence of WNV in Dallas County was validated on Monday, July 10, marking the onset of this disease in the area. The second positive case was confirmed by the DCHHS on July 10.

“WNV is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito, and people should be careful when going out outside to enjoy outdoor activities,” said DCHHS Director Dr. Philip Huang, as reported by WFAA.
He is warning residents to be careful and follow the “4 Ds” to avoid mosquito bites.

Here are the 4 Ds:
- DEET: Whenever you’re outside, use insect repellents that contain DEET or other EPA-approved repellents and follow instructions.
- DRESS: Wear long, loose, and light-colored clothing when outdoors.
- DRAIN: Drain or treat all standing water in and around your home or workplace where mosquitoes could lay eggs.
- DAWN to DUSK: Limit your time outdoors during these times when mosquitos are most active.
