Man Arrested After Fight and Armed Assault on Relative Outside Irving 7-Eleven (irvingweekly.com) — Irving residents should know police recently arrested a 48-year-old man after a gun-related fight outside a 7-Eleven at West Northgate Drive and Esters Road. Officers say the suspect threatened a relative with a firearm, hit him during a struggle, and was later booked into Irving Jail on domestic violence aggravated assault and vehicle burglary charges.
   

2. Texas awards $70 million to rebuild Irving's aging drainage channel, cut flood risk (undergroundinfrastructure.com) — Irving has secured $70 million from the Texas Water Development Board to rebuild a major aging drainage channel, boosting flood protection for more than 240 homes. The multi-phase project, already underway, will reinforce about 10,000 feet of concrete channel, deepen sections for safety, and extend along North Delaware Creek, with full completion expected by 2030 to significantly cut neighborhood flood risks.
   

3. Irving Students Invited to Share MLK-Inspired Essays on Building a Stronger Community (irvingweekly.com) — Irving students in grades 3–12 are invited to enter a citywide essay contest tied to the 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. observance, with entries due Jan. 7. Winners will read their essays at the Jan. 18 MLK event at the Irving Arts Center, reflecting on how Dr. King’s legacy can inspire real actions to strengthen the Irving community.
   

4. Houston outpaces Dallas, San Antonio and Austin in November vehicle thefts (houstonchronicle.com) — Irving ranked among Texas’ top 10 cities for vehicle thefts in November, according to state crime-prevention officials, with Houston leading the list. State data show full-size pickups, especially Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierras, were the most frequently stolen vehicles, underscoring a growing risk for truck owners across urban Texas.
